Snow has fallen across parts of Devon and Cornwall, with icy roads and heavy hail showers reported.
A Met Office yellow weather warning for snow and ice is in force across Cornwall and parts of Devon until 23:59.
Icy road conditions have been reported on the A30 in the Temple area, and heavy hail showers have caused tricky conditions in Fraddon.
Snow has been reported in Bodmin, Camelford, Tavistock, Princetown, Okehampton and Plympton.
Councils sent gritters out overnight, and drivers have been urged to take “extra care” on Thursday.
Plymouth city councillor John Stephens, cabinet member for strategic planning and transport, said the authority was monitoring weather conditions to ensure “our teams are ready to go when the worst of the winter weather hits”.
“Gritters are on standby for whenever temperatures are expected to drop near or below freezing to keep Plymouth moving and all road users safe,” he said.
In its warning, the Met Office said accumulations of 2-5cm (0.8-1.9 inches) of snow was possible while some places might get up to 10cm (3.9 inches).
It warned of disruption to public transport services and a chance of injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.
