Tolaj has been one of the few bright points in a difficult season for Plymouth Argyle after relegation back to League One.
The victory at Vale Park ended a run of six successive losses in all competitions and was injury-ravaged Argyle’s first victory in almost two months.
The win saw the Pilgrims move off the foot of League One, with Vale replacing them. Argyle are now a point off safety having won five of their 16 league games this season.
“It’s nice to get the first win and give back the confidence of the team, I’m really happy with that,” Tolaj added.
“I’m proud of the boys and the way we defended, the second half especially, because it wasn’t easy, we ran a lot, we defended the box well, so I’m glad we kept the clean sheet.
“I wanted to score in this game especially, obviously I played for this club, but I’m happy for that.”
