The frosty weather has created some stunning dawn scenes across the region this week, while at Bristol Zoo Project, the new tropical house is keeping the reptiles toasty warm.

Anniversary: Marking 250 years since the births of painters JMW Turner and John Constable, an exhibition at the Tate Britain, London, features The Rising Squall by Turner.

The picture features a former hot spring and spa in Bristol, as seen from the east bank of the River Avon before the Clifton Suspension Bridge was built.

Gloucestershire

Festive fun: Westonbirt Arboretum’s 15,000 trees have been illuminated by a rainbow of colours for this year’s light trail, which launched on Friday.

Celebrating Gloucester: Businesses and residents described by Gloucester BID as “community champions and city heroes” were recognised at the Believe in Gloucester Awards evening on Thursday night.

Among the winners was Nick Broady, who took home the Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his work as the former chairman of The Pied Piper Appeal, supporting sick and disabled children across Gloucestershire.

Fire in the sky: Colder temperatures often bring brighter skies at this time of year, but only rarely do we get such dramatic sunrises captured, such as this image sent in by Corvus of the Pewsey countryside.

Litterpicking lark: A new litterpicking group has been launched in the west of the county to tackle the waste issue on canal towpaths.

The Kennet and Avon Nomadic Litterpickers group is made up of travelling boat dwellers, with the maiden event taking place last weekend in Trowbridge.
