A project to improve a cycle route has been scrapped because it is too difficult to implement, a council says.
Active Travel England provided Somerset Council with £1.5m to carry out work on the existing path along the A39 between Dunster and Carhampton in west Somerset.
A spokesperson for the council said: “The funding allocation, with the agreement of Active Travel England, was reallocated to a number of other schemes due to the logistical challenges of the original proposal.”
The authority said it would continue to look at how it can improve the cycle route between the two villages, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
The existing cycle path along the A39 runs from Winsors Lane in Carhampton to the crossroads with the A396 in Dunster.
The project had intended to link the route with two previously completed sections – the stretch between the Seaward Way in Minehead and Marsh Lane in Dunster and the section between Marsh Lane and Dunster Steep.
Somerset Council said the money had been spent on other projects, including Lyde Road in Yeovil and the route alongside the A39 Westway near Street.
