Police said a red Fiat 500 crashed into a parked car and the driver died at the scene

A person has died after a vehicle crashed with a parked car, police have said.

Officers said they thought the crash happened at 21:30 GMT on Saturday on the A361 in West Lyng, Somerset, but the vehicle was not discovered until 10:30 on Sunday morning.

Police said inquiries suggested a red Fiat 500 crashed into a parked car and the driver died at the scene. While formal identification has not taken place, their next of kin have been traced and will be supported, police said.

The road remains closed following an examination of the scene, and motorists are urged to seek alternative routes.

Police are appealing for witnesses and any dashcam or other footage which could help their investigation.
