A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after another man was stabbed, police have said.

Devon and Cornwall Police said armed officers responded to the attack at about 14:50 GMT on Saturday in the Mildmay Street area of Plymouth.

Police said the victim suffered a stab wound to his chest, possibly from a screwdriver, but his injuries were not “life-threatening or life-changing”.

Detectives said along with the man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, a woman was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and a man was arrested on suspicion of affray. The men are in their 20s and the woman is in her 30s.

Police said they were called after a dispute between multiple people on nearby Hospital Road.

A sword which was brandished by one of those involved in the incident was recovered from inside a property, officers said.

The man who was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and the woman who was arrested have been released on bail.

The man who was arrested on suspicion of affray remained in custody, the force said.

Police asked anyone with information about the attack to contact them.
