Billy Rowley: New Yeovil Town manager ‘really confident’ in current squad

Yeovil is Rowley’s first management role this high in the English football pyramid having previously been in charge of seventh-tier Walton & Hersham.

The 43-year-old has previously worked in the academies of Chelsea, Millwall and Fulham while he also coached in the USA.

In his 10 days at the helm so far, Rowley said he had “learned a lot” as he adjusts to a new level of football.

“One thing I back myself on is being a good learner, being a quick learner, I’ve been quite adaptable in my career and I’m looking forward to that challenge,” he said.

Yeovil are currently 15th in the National League, their sixth campaign in the lower leagues since relegation from League Two in 2019.

The Glovers were taken over by entrepreneur Prabhu Srinivasan in July and Rowley said both he and the new owner showed are “aligned” on their vision for the club.

“He sells his vision very well, the club is steeped in history and he wants to keep it really simple,” he said.

“He wants to build a real connection between players, between fans, between community, he wants us to play with a real clear style, they want us to recruit quite young and hungry players and that’s everything that I want to do as well as a football manager.”

Yeovil travel to Hartlepool United in their next match on 6 December and Rowley said he hopes fans will soon start to see his style come out on the pitch.

“I value a bit of a position play system where people play their role and understand why they’re doing what they’re doing, but that does change week to week,” he said.

“The fans will probably learn quite quickly that the players – I hope – will show a lot of clarity on the pitch and start to build some good relationships in how they attack and defend.”
