Exeter City’s Gary Caldwell says winning run breeding confidence

Progression to round two moves Exeter one step closer to repeating last season’s impressive run in the FA Cup.

The Grecians were beaten by Premier League side Nottingham Forest on penalties in the fourth round in an epic tie at St James Park.

City beat Championship side Oxford United on the way as they reached the fourth round for the first time since 1981.

“Everyone wants to get in the third round of the FA Cup when the big boys come in – we managed to get a really exciting tie last year and hopefully we can do the same this year,” Caldwell said.

“It’s really important for the prestige of the football club, for the players to get the experience of playing bigger teams, Premier League teams, Championship teams is always a great thing for your career,” he added.

“So it’s a good thing for them, it’s good financially for the football club, so I think it’s really important.

“The next round, whoever we get, we’ll do the exact same in terms of preparation and respect whoever we get and try and progress into the later rounds like we did last year.”
