John Askey: Truro City boss hails fans after longest-ever away trip to Gateshead

The draw meant Truro stay in the relegation places in the National League, although their form has seen an upturn in recent weeks.

A loss on penalties to ASFC Totton in their FA Cup replay is the only defeat City have suffered in their last six matches in all competitions.

Having faced almost all of the top 10 in their first 16 games City take on sides in and around them over the next few weeks as they aim to improve on 22nd place.

“If we’d have been putting our chances away then we’d have quite a lot more points,” added Askey.

“When you’ve been two up and they get the tails up, having got back level, you’ve got to really dig in, and the lads did.

“If you said before the game would you have taken a point? Probably I would. I think, if you look at it, apart from penalties, it’s probably six unbeaten.

“So we are getting better, we still need to improve, but it’s a gutsy performance again from the players.”
