There are plans for a memorial bench to be placed in the centre of the University of Plymouth in memory of a university lecturer who was murdered.
Claire Chick was stabbed to death in January by her estranged husband, who is now serving a life sentence.
She was awarded a posthumous PhD in October and friends and colleagues at the university created the Claire Chick Nursing Fund to support student nurses.
Professor Aled Jones, from the School of Nursing and Midwifery, said Ms Chick had “boundless enthusiasm and energy”.
He said: “We’re hoping to get a chatty bench, as it’s known, in the park that’s in the centre of the campus in Plymouth so people can just sit and talk to each other, which was something that Claire was extremely good at doing and… sort of very, very personable in that way.”
Mr Jones said Ms Chick would have been flattered people thought so highly of her.
He said: “She was very modest about it, she couldn’t see how brilliant she was in many ways.
“We kept saying, ‘Claire, this is fantastic’ and she said, ‘oh, I’m just doing my job’, so I think she’d have been proud.”
Mr Jones said she was always “full on energy and ideas” and “channelled that energy to advocate for nursing as a profession and to advocate for nursing students”.
