Millbrook funeral director accused of blocking burial

A former funeral director from Cornwall is set to appear in court accused of fraud and stopping a body from being buried.

Jack Weekes, 32, of St Johns Road in Millbrook, has been summonsed to Bodmin Magistrates’ Court on Friday. He faces two charges following a police investigation in 2024.

Devon and Cornwall Police said the first charge relates to preventing the lawful and decent burial of a dead body between 16 October and 4 December 2023.

The second accuses Mr Weekes of fraud by false representation. Police allege that between 11 October and 5 December 2023, he claimed to be providing funeral services but instead used the money for personal gain.

A police spokesperson said the investigation began after a report was made in March 2024.

Later that month, officers visited a former funeral director’s premises in Millbrook as part of their enquiries.
