Exeter City chairman Richard Pym has resigned after less than four months in the role.
Pym re-joined the club in October after financial issues threatened the Grecians’ future.
An overspend last season at the fan-owned club led to City obtaining loans of around £600,000 from the Exeter City Supporters’ Trust, which owns the club.
In his time at City, Pym has eased financial concerns after negotiating an early payment of transfer sell-on funds owed to the club after Jay Stansfield’s £15m move to Birmingham City in the summer of 2024.
At a fans’ forum last month, Pym said that without any player sales the playing budget for next season could be cut by as much as £1.5m as the Grecians aim to keep within their financial means.
“He has made a vital contribution towards securing the future of the football club,” a statement on the Exeter City website, external said.
“This includes significant progress since he returned to support the club during the autumn of 2025 and subsequently stepped into the role of chair in November.
“His expertise has helped to place the club on a more stable financial footing.
“His contribution has included finalising the agreement for forward financing of deferred transfer payments and the creation of a plan for subsequent loan support.
“The proposed Rights Issue set out by Richard will also provide a clear path for increasing the Trust’s shareholding in the club and would provide opportunities for new investment in the club.”
Former Exeter City Supporters” Trust chairman Laurence Overend, who was vice-chair at the club, will take over from Pym on an interim basis while a new chair is appointed.
