BBCA chain of stores in Devon and Cornwall has announced a total of 24 jobs will be cut and its restaurants at Newton Abbot and Liskeard will close.
The board of Trago said jobs would go at its Falmouth, Liskeard and Newton Abbot stores, but its Falmouth store would stay open despite the closure of two departments deemed no longer commercially viable.
In September, Trago Mills chairman Bruce Robertson said management was consulting staff to find “an amenable solution” to resolve six-figure deficits at the Falmouth branch on Arwenack Street.
The Trago Leisure Park at Newton Abbot is also set to close after Trago deemed that part of the business no longer financially viable.
In a statement Trago said the board would “continue to explore all options to achieve a return to profitability”.
It continued: “Our thanks go out to the many messages of support and compassion over the past month.
“Our clear message and plea to an (at least in part) adoring public is…if you want a Trago presence in Falmouth, please use us!”
Trago Mills has four stores; in Falmouth and Liskeard in Cornwall, Newton Abbot in Devon and Merthyr Tydfil, Wales.
Trago said the announcement of the closure of the Staple Hill restaurant at Newton Abbot followed a period of consultation in which a decision was made with “careful consideration”.
In Newton Abbot a total of 12 staff, seven who work at the restaurant and five who work at the leisure park, are facing redundancy. The restaurant is set to cease trading on 31 December, Trago said.
It said the leisure park at Newton Abbot would also close but the steam railway would remain open while Trago “actively explores sustainable options to enable it to continue operating in the future”.
Also, in Liskeard, two staff are set to lose their jobs through redundancy after the announcement of the restaurant closure.
The Keg and Kettle will have its final day on 22 December.
