Weather forces Poole Pirates speedway final postponement

A speedway team just one race from potentially securing three major titles have been forced to put their final back due to forecast wet weather.

Poole Pirates were set to host the Redcar Bears in the BSN Series final second leg at Wimborne Road, Poole, at 19:30 BST.

The speedway team said due to the “predicted adverse weather conditions” it had been put back to Friday, adding: “We apologise to any fans who may have made advanced travelling arrangements but we hope that in making this early decision we can minimise the inconvenience.”

All tickets bought in advance will be valid for Friday’s fixture. Those unable to attend the new date can request a refund.

In a statement, the club said it had made the decision as heavy and persistent rain is forecast in the area from early evening on Wednesday.

Poole’s promoter Dan Ford said the postponement was “made early in agreement with both teams and stadium management to minimise disruption for fans and riders”.

He added: “We have been able to quickly re-schedule this final to Friday and the forecast is much improved for then.”

Last year saw the Dorset team win their third speedway championship title in four years after beating the Oxford Cheetahs.
