Rodney Bunzly was sentenced to 12 years

A man has been jailed for 12 years for a string of sexual offences against a child, which left a “lasting impact” on the victim.

Rodney Bunzly, 57, of Grasmere Drive in Weston-super-Mare, was sentenced on four charges dating back two decades including indecent assault against a child and sexual intercourse with a child.

He was also previously found guilty of making indecent images of a child.

Bunzly now has a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) against him and a restraining order not to contact the victim.

In a statement read out in court, the victim said the abuse had “always been something that affected my ability to form relationships”.

She added, Bunzly “never” displayed remorse and “despite what he did” she has been able to “start enjoying life again”.

‘Took advantage’

DC Joe Sanderson said: “Bunzly took advantage of the victim when she was very young and while she was vulnerable”.

The targeted abuse had a “serious and significant psychological harm” to the victim. said Judge Moira Macmillan at Bristol Crown court.

Last month, he was also found guilty of 10 other charges of making indecent images of a child and was sentenced to the four most serious charges at the same court on Thursday 18 September.
