Winchester-Basingstoke rail problems after train blocks line

Rail passengers are facing disruption on Monday morning after a broken-down freight train blocked the track.

Lines have since reopened following the incident between Winchester and Basingstoke but services may still be cancelled, delayed or revised.

The disruption, which is affecting CrossCountry and South Western Railway (SWR) passengers, is expected to last until 12:00 GMT.

The operators have offered advice for alternative services to customers.

National Rail has said this affects CrossCountry services between Bournemouth and Birmingham New Street to Manchester Piccadilly and also between Southampton Central and Newcastle.

SWR services are affected on routes between Weymouth, Poole, Southampton Central, Portsmouth Harbour and London Waterloo, as well as between Portsmouth Harbour and Woking.
