Bridgwater Carnival was the first of eight carnivals on the Guy Fawkes circuit

The famous Somerset Guy Fawkes carnival has begun, with seven more chances for people to see the events across the county.

The Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival, which has been running since 1847, saw illuminated carts and costumed performers fill the streets on Saturday evening to kick the season off.

More than 1,000 people perform in the colourful processions, which feature eye-catching carts which are built in Somerset.

Still to come on the Somerset County Guy Fawkes Carnival circuit over the next two weeks are Burnham-on-Sea, Weston-super-Mare, North Petherton, Midsomer Norton, Shepton Mallet, Wells and Glastonbury.
